Ethical Brand List

Hey guys,

So I’m a huge humanitarian at heart. Ethical brands are my jam. A lot of you have asked for recommendations so I started this list to kick things off and I’m going to keep adding to it maybe once a month or so. I’ve been making ethical purchases for the last decade or so, and I’m always looking for new brands to support. I’d say I most appreciate brands that pay workers a living wage in a safe environment, minimize chemical use and waste of resources, and don’t use animal products - basically any brands that help me live a more intentional and beautiful life. I put * next to the ones I really, really like.

Artesano

Chic, sturdy, and cushy, Artesano sandals are literally the perfect stylish slippers. Artesano’s name means “hand-crafted” because all of their products are handmade! Most of their materials are eco-friendly and vegan, and they’re focused on producing their products in a responsible way to help take care of the planet and all living things. These “Madeira” slides are made of Piñatex (pineapple leather) and cork, two of the most environmentally-friendly materials available right now.

BBSWIMMIES

Made sustainably and ethically in Kailua, Hawai’i, BBSWIMMIES uses recycled fabric to create made-to-order one-pieces and bikinis that are custom and reversible. Personally, I choose not to wear bikinis in public, BUT I always need stable swimmers to wear under my wetsuit while surfing, and BBSWIMMIES definitely passes the surf test! My BBSWIMMIES tops are also supportive enough to wear as crop tops under tank tops when I’m out and about. Also, I like to support local small businesses and this one happens to be on the same tiny island as me!

Conscious Coconut *

Conscious Coconut is a social enterprise that produces fair trade, organic coconut oil. They’re certified through Fair Trade USA, ensuring safe working conditions and just compensation for farmers and factory workers. Once their travel-ready tubes arrive in the States, they’re packaged by adults with developmental disabilities at the Macdonald Training Center in Tampa. For every product sold, they donate a meal to a child in need through Feeding America. PLUS their coconut oil is hands down the best I’ve ever used - I oil pull with it every morning and it travels with me everywhere I go, whether it’s down the road in my purse or overseas in my carry-on!

Indosole

Recently I had to say goodbye to my daily Birkenstock Australian limited edition slippers that I used for 5+ years (!!!), which sent me on a frantic search for a new pair. I stumbled across this California-based brand and was pleasantly surprised to learn that it aims to keep 1 million rubber tires from negatively impacting the earth by sourcing rubber from Indonesia to create flip flops, slides, and other eco-friendly footwear. Indosole is a Certified B Corporation company and their products are handmade by skilled Indonesian artisans.

Malie Organics *

Malie Organics is a clean luxury beauty brand that literally has the best smelling skincare in the world! I searched for YEARS to find organic skincare that actually smelled good while still being good for my skin, and my search ended at Malie. They’re proudly made in the USA from ingredients that are natural, non-toxic and locally sourced. The founders live on Kaua’i, Hawai’i and it’s truly a sweet, local, family-based business, though growing in popularity around the world! My favorite scent is “Pikake” but you can’t go past the beautiful “Hibiscus” range for gift-giving.

Nobody Denim

This Melbourne denim brand is all about sustainability and ethical production. Everyone knows denim is one of the worst fabrics when it comes to pollution, water use and waste, which is why the brand is focused on making ‘clean’ denim garments. All the garments are made in Melbourne with guaranteed fair working conditions for over 80 staff; the brand is also accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA). I have two pairs of their shorts (one blue, one black) that I wear to death and desperately need to think about getting another pair soon!
